Members of the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps., paramedics from Cortlandt and Peekskill and the Continental Village Volunteer Fire Department received a report on Sunday, Sept. 29, where there was a report of a crash that left a truck left disabled off the side of Bear Mountain Bridge Road in Cortlandt.
According to officials, first responders were dispatched to the scene quickly, and found that the dump truck had struck a car, crashing through boulders lining the side of the road and causing a fuel spill. Firefighters said that the truck eventually came to a stop near the edge of a steep slope and was leaking the diesel fuel from its tank.
Paramedics evaluated the drivers of both the truck and car, each of whom denied a transport to a hospital for treatment on any injuries. After evaluating the scene, the Montrose Veterans Affairs Hazmat team was dispatched to the area to help offload the diesel fuel leaking from the dump truck. The scene was ultimately cleared by 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
